Italy says it will not change budget proposal, after rejection of the European Commission

Italy's Economic Development Minister Luigi Di Maio has defended Rome's budget proposal and said it will not go back on the fiscal deficit decision for 2019, despite pressures from the European Commission. Yesterday, the Commission rejected the Italian proposal, which foresees that the deficit will exceed 2.4% of GDP in 2019, which is considered three times more than the old Roman administrations envisaged and 0.4 percentage point higher than the one agreed with the Union European Union.
The European Commission has never rejected a budget proposal since the creation of the euro area. Starting today, Italy will have three days to review the budget and send it back to Brussels, which will have another three months to respond. Luigi Di Maio also said that the intention of the Italian government is to increase public spending to safeguard the social rights of Italy, in addition to saying that it will not disappoint its voters, since this measure had already been an electoral pledge.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini also defended the proposal by stating that other European authorities do not have the power to decide how the country's accounts will be paid and organized.
