Unemployment claims in the US have been lowest since 1969
Unemployment insurance claims in the United States in the first week of September remained at their lowest level since December 1969, according to official data on Thursday. The Labor Department posted 204,000 applications in the week ending last Friday, which means a drop of 1,000 applications, seasonally adjusted data.
Analysts had expected an increase of 210,000. It is the lowest level since December 6, 1969, when 202,000 applications for insurance were filed. The US labor market is currently well-placed, with an unemployment rate of 3.9%, the lowest in almost 20 years.
