Trade balance has surplus of US $ 2 billion in the third week of September

Brazil's trade balance posted surplus (exports minus imports) of US $ 2.012 billion last week, the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC) said on Monday. In September, until Sunday (23), the positive trade surplus totaled US $ 4.371 billion. According to the government, exports totaled US $ 14.954 billion (up 14.5% compared to the same period of last year) and imports, US $ 10.583 billion (up 12.1% ). In this comparison, exports of the three product categories increased: semimanufactured (+ 10.7%), manufactured (+ 7.1%) and basic (+ 23.7%). On the import side, purchases of fertilizers (+ 55.4%), motor vehicles and parts (+ 35.6%), steel (+ 33.9%), fuels and lubricants (+ 30.8% ) and optical and precision instruments (+ 20.7%).
In the partial of this year, until September 23, the trade balance recorded a surplus, with foreign sales surpassing purchases from abroad, of US $ 42.048 billion. The result, however, is 17% lower than in the same period of last year, when the positive balance of the balance was US $ 50.659 billion. In this year, exports totaled US $ 173,858 billion, with a daily average of US $ 950 million (up 9% over the same period last year).
Imports, in turn, totaled US $ 131.810 billion, or US $ 720 million per business day (an increase of 22.7% over the same period in 2017). Last year, the trade balance posted a positive balance of US $ 67 billion, the best result for a year closed since the beginning of the historic ministry series in 1989.
